Alumni Annual Fund

What will the Alumni Annual Fund be used for?

The Alumni Annual Fund will support activities in two broad areas:

  • Enhancement of the student and campus facilities
  • Supporting students in genuine financial hardship

You can decide which area you would like your donation to support.

Student and Campus Facilities

The University has undertaken a major redevelopment of the campus over recent years. A large investment has already been committed to flagship new buildings for Teaching and Learning, and student and research facilities. Each campaign we identify key projects that we hope our alumni will support (full details can be found from the campaign link above.

The Library

Do you remember long queues at the library when you were a student? Part of the Alumni Annual Fund will be allocated to improving the library's short loan collection - the busiest department of our library facilities. Gifts from the Alumni Annual Fund will help us ensure that our students have access to a well-stocked short-loan collection facility. The Alumni Annual Fund has already supported the purchase of a Spectrum magnifier for the Main Library.

Student Experience

We frequently receive requests from students for financial assistance for research related trips that will enhance their ability to produce final year thesis – we are extremely keen to help these students where possible – examples of students assisted in this way include geography students going on field trips to South America and medical students helping in field hospitals in various African countries.

Student Hardship Support

We are unable to help all those students who, through no fault of their own, experience genuine financial hardship and are in danger of giving up their course of study. Donations of cash gifts to the Alumni Annual Fund will continue to augment our hardship funds, allowing us to help many more students in real need, enabling them to go on to successful careers.    Already, more than £100,000 has been allocated to support student hardship.

Scholarships

The University of Dundee has long had a pioneering approach to attracting students from deprived backgrounds and from families who have no experience of higher education. Our Summer School has been acclaimed as a model approach to encouraging people who have either struggled to attend University through conventional methods or who have dropped out of education and now wish to return as a mature student.

We are keen to build our scholarship offering both help to students from poorer backgrounds to think about attending university and to attract the best qualified candidates.

We are therefore intending to use a proportion of money raised from the Annual Fund to develop an alumni scholarship scheme.
